On the fourth day of the event, GEOAMBIENTE® S/A made history by presenting the innovative study “High-Resolution Site Characterization and Remediation Workflow for Hydrocarbon Remediation.”

Study Highlights

The study focused on risk mitigation in cases of large-scale fuel spills, which generated hydrocarbon contamination in soil and groundwater. Contaminants reached a nearby river, posing risks of explosion and vapor inhalation.

A 3D hydrogeological model was built using historical soil samples and high-resolution data to estimate the total contaminant mass and map retention and migration zones. The contaminant mass was estimated at around 21 tons. With a refined conceptual model, the amount of remediation products needed was reduced from approximately 50 to 20 tons, using a combination of OxyGEO® and SurfGEO® as oxidants.

This study demonstrates that, through innovation and technology, remediation costs for contaminated sites can be significantly reduced. At GeoAmbiente S/A, we don’t just face environmental challenges — we turn them into opportunities for savings and environmental stewardship.
